| Lesson 4: Hyperlinks |
Introduction |
You can hyperlink text within HyperStudio. Text can be "hyperlinked" to do the following:
Go to another card within the same stack
- Go to another stack
- Go to an Internet address on the World Wide Web using a specified URL
| This lesson will go over how to hyperlink text within a HyperStudio stack. |
General Meanings of Hyperlinks:
As defined by Webopedia.com, a hyperlink is defined as an element in an electronic document that links to another place in the same document or to an entirely different document. Typically, you click on the hyperlink to follow the link. Hyperlinks are the most essential ingredient of all hypertext systems, including theWorld Wide Web. |
You can use a hyperlink to go to a definition of a highlighted word on the card. This could be useful for a lesson or other type of project such as a documentary.
| A hyperlink could also be used to provide further information on the subject matter on a specific card or at the end of the stack for the overall topic. For example, if you have a stack for the topic, Famous Mississippians, you may have certain words within the stack go to a Web site on that topic. Other resources can be provided at the end of the stack for more information to be viewed or researched when convenient. |

Hyperlink Selected Text |
To hyperlink text on a card, you need to highlight the text you want link. The hyperlinked text can go to another card in the same stack.
You may want to change the color of the text to indicate that there is a hyperlink associated with this text. Red or blue are common colors used with hyperlinked text. Text that is underlined is also an indication of a hyperlink.Change the text color before you add the hyperink to that text.
| If you are going to change the text color and/or style (underline), you need to do that before hyperlinking the text because it is harder to change features like text color or style once the text is hyperlinked. When you click on the word or phrase that has been hyperlinked it will take you directly to the card, stack, or URL source to which the text is linked. So be sure to change the text features such as text color or underlined style before you hyperlink the selected text. |
| To change the text color, go to Format on the main menu bar. Go down until you get to "Set Text Color...". |
A dialog box will appear of different colors to choose from. Select a color and click ok. |
To underline text you must by dragging the cursor over the text, then go to Format>Style and click on Underline. Then your selected text is underlined. The selected text style will have a check mark beside it.
| If you to make another word or phrase the same style that already has a check mark beside it, then you will have to go to Format>Style to change the style selected to a different style (plain, bold, italic) in order to change the style. Go BACK to Format>Style and then you will be able to select Underline again. |
| Hyperlink Text |
First, you need to highlight the text you want to hyperlink and go to Objects>Hypertext Links.
The text does not have to be the specific Internet address that will be hyperlinked. You can use any text and just make sure you put in the URL that will be accessed with you click on this text on the card.
